Stepping stones greatly improve footing on the upper portion protected within Jostedalsbreen National Park (nasjonalpark). Hikers allow at least 5 hours up and 3 hours down on this strenuous ascent of 1800 meters (6000 feet). For a fee, the public can sleep in the tower's 22 beds, as administered by Bergen Turlag, a subsidiary of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT).
