Flowers of the Helichrysum genus (aka everlasting or strawflowers) around 10,000 feet elevation on Mount Kenya in East Africa. Their vibrant blooms retain brilliance even after drying, hence their poetic name everlasting flowers. Occurring in Africa, Madagascar, Australasia and Eurasia, the Helichrysum genus contains about 600 species of flowering plants in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). We trekked on Mt Kenya for 7 days sleeping in tents plus 1 hut to escape wind. Mount Kenya National Park is honored by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. The Republic of Kenya is named after Mount Kenya, the second-highest peak in Africa (exceeded by Tanzania's Mt Kilimanjaro).
