The peak of Aoraki / Mount Cook (12,218 feet) rises majestically at the head of Hooker Valley above Hooker Lake in the distance. Glacier-clad Mt Sefton rises on the left. In 1990, UNESCO honored Te Wahipounamu - South West New Zealand as a World Heritage Area.
