The Pan-American Highway (Carretera Panamericana) traverses a gorge through the Guayllabamba River Valley between Quito and Otavalo, Ecuador, South America. The Guayllabamba, named after the Guayllabamba plain, originates in the east of Pichincha Province in northern Ecuador and flows into the Pacific Ocean in Esmeraldas Province.
