Yellow mountain saxifrage (Saxifraga aizoides, in the Saxifragaceae family). This flowering herb and alpine plant spreads by short rhizomes, forming mats. The flowers, with five sepals and petals, are yellow-green, or sometimes appear reddish-orange as shown here. August is a good month to see many attractive alpine wildflowers blooming in the Alpstein limestone range, Appenzell Alps, Switzerland, Europe. Appenzell Innerrhoden is Switzerland's most traditional and smallest-population canton (second smallest by area).
