The granite dome of Liberty Cap rises 1700 feet (520 m) from the base of Nevada Fall to 7076 feet (2157 m) elevation along on the John Muir Trail in Yosemite National Park, California, USA. To the left is the south side of Half Dome. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, Giant Sequoia groves, and biological diversity. 100 million years ago, the Sierra Nevada crystallized into granite from magma 5 miles underground.
