Fort Casey was one of three forts (including Fort Worden and Fort Flagler) built in the late 1890's to guard Admiralty Inlet with a "Triangle of Fire", protecting Puget Sound ports. The United States used the fort heavily for World War I training, but never in actual combat. All armaments were scrapped for other purposes by 1945.
