A tango mural shows a dancing couple, bandoneón player, cobblestone street, and city skyline in San Telmo barrio of Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America. Popular in Argentina and Uruguay, the bandoneón is a type of concertina which is essential in most tango ensembles from the traditional orquesta típicas of the 1930s and 1940s onwards. The bandoneón was named by German instrument dealer Heinrich Band (1821-1860). German sailors and Italian seasonal workers and emigrants brought the instrument with them to Argentina in the late 1800s, where it was incorporated into local milonga and tango music.
