A kori bustard seen on a wildlife safari in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, East Africa. The kori bustard (Ardeotis kori) is the world's heaviest flying bird. Male kori bustards exceed twice the weight of females. This species is a ground-dwelling opportunistic omnivore. The bustard family belongs to the order Otidiformes, found only in the Old World. Serengeti National Park was established in 1940 in the eastern Mara and northeastern Simiyu Regions of Tanzania. UNESCO honors Serengeti National Park as a World Heritage Site. Through the park runs the Great Migration — the world's most massive land animal migration (in terms of total body weight). This annual circuit of millions of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, etc. passes from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area clockwise through Serengeti National Park to Kenya's Maasai Mara game reserve and back. The Serengeti Plains and Ecosystem span the Mara and Arusha Regions of Tanzania.
