Mount St. Helens in Washington, seen from the Timberline Trail on the flanks of Mt. Hood, Oregon, USA. Three of us circumnavigated Mount Hood, near Portland, by backpacking the scenic Timberline Trail (42 miles with 9900 feet gain and loss). We began our clockwise 5-day hike at Timberline Lodge (a National Historic Landmark) and camped for four nights.
