Kehlsteinhaus, known in English-speaking countries as Hitler's Eagle's Nest, was built by the Nazis in 1938 atop the rocky outcrop of Kehlstein, which rises above Obersalzberg, near Berchtesgaden in southeast Germany. Kehlsteinhaus was used exclusively by members of the Nazi Party and was visited 14 times by Adolf Hitler. Today, it is open seasonally as a restaurant, beer garden, and popular tourist site. Kehlstein (1,834 m or 6,017 ft) is subpeak of the Hoher Göll above Berchtesgaden. This view is captured from Jenner Observation Platform—a walk of 1 km round trip with 75 meters gain from Jenner Alm, reached via Jennerbahn cable car from Schönau am Königssee. Berchtesgaden National Park is honored by UNESCO as Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Reserve.
