Bronze statue of Flora MacDonald (Gaelic: Fionnghal nic Dhòmhnaill; 1722 –1790), a Scottish Jacobite heroine. The sculpture was designed by Andrew Davidson and erected in 1896. (A live bird atop her head stayed longer than I was able to wait.) The red sandstone Inverness Castle was built in 1836 by architect William Burn on the site of an 11th-century fort, on Castle Hill, also known as Castle Wynd. Today, it houses Inverness Sheriff Court. In April 2017 the north tower of the castle was opened to the public as a view point. Inverness is the administrative capital of the Highlands, in Scotland, United Kingdom, Europe.
