The Qualla Boundary is a land trust supervised by the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs for the Tribe of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians, who reside on the adjacent Reservation in western North Carolina. The 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway was built 1935-1987 to aesthetically connect Shenandoah National Park (in Virginia) with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The Smokies are a subrange of the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains.
