Upper 2 Laghi dei Piani (lakes of Bödenseen) under Paternkofel (Monte Paterno) peak, Sesto Dolomites, South Tyrol, Italy

The Upper two Laghi dei Piani (Lakes of Piani / Bödenseen) lie under the peak of Paternkofel (Monte Paterno, 9003 ft) in the Sexten (Sesto) Dolomites Group, in South Tyrol province (AKA Alto Adige or the Autonomous Province of Bolzano), near Moso, Italy. A spectacular trail goes from Hotel Dolomitenhof in Fiscalina Valley to Zsigmondyhütte (Rifugio Zsigmondy-Comici) and Dreizinnenhütte (Rifugio Locatelli) (11.6 miles, 3880 feet) in Naturpark Drei Zinnen (Parco Naturale Tre Cime). Placenames in South Tyrol reflect the WWI stalemate between Austria-Hungary and Italy.
