Grasswidows have the scientific name Olsynium douglasii, with synonyms Sisyrinchium douglasii or Sisyrinchium grandiflorum, in the genus Olsynium, native to western North America from southern British Columbia south to northern California, and east to northwest Utah. This perennial herbaceous bulbiferous plant grows 10-40 cm tall with flowers having six purple tepals.
