Yakushima sika deer (aka yakushika), Yakushima UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Yakushima deer evolved to be half the size of mainland sika deer. Yakushima is a quiet, subtropical island with ancient cedar forest. Yakushima's perimeter road tightly narrows in the west and excludes buses as it winds through the lush Yakushima UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, which comprises 20 percent of the small island.
