Climbers ascend a via ferrata route ladder above Rifugio Lorenzi on Monte Cristallo, in the Dolomites, Italy, Europe. Monte Cristallo lies within Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d'Ampezzo, in the Ampezzo Dolomites, part of the Southern Limestone Alps. A lift to Forcella Staunies on Monte Cristallo gives unforgettable views over the mountains near Cortina d'Ampezzo. Directions: From Cortina, drive 6km east on SR48 to the large parking lot for Ski Area Faloria Cristallo Mietres (just west of Passo Tre Croci Federavecchia). Take a chair-lift from Rio Gere to Son Forca (rising from 1698m to 2215m). Then take the old style ovovia (egg-shaped) Gondellift Forcella Staunies to Rifugio Guido Lorenzi (2932m) for astounding deck views and exciting via ferrata climbing routes. UNESCO honored the Dolomites as a natural World Heritage Site in 2009.
