Hikers ascend the Brainerd Lake Trail along Big Pine Creek South Fork, under Buck Mountain in John Muir Wilderness, Inyo National Forest, California, USA. From the day hikers parking lot, we walked 9.2 miles round trip with 2800 feet gain to Brainerd (or Brainard) Lake (which would be 1.5 miles further round trip from the overnight hikers lot).
