See Mount Jefferson, the second highest mountain in Oregon, from Mt. Hood's Timberline Trail near Timberline Lodge, USA. Mount Jefferson is a stratovolcano that formed mostly within the past 100,000 years in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, part of the Cascade Range. Three of us circumnavigated Mount Hood, near Portland, by backpacking the scenic Timberline Trail (42 miles with 9900 feet gain and loss). We began our clockwise 5-day hike at Timberline Lodge and camped for four nights.
