Huaraz (population 120,000 in 2007, elevation 3052 meters / 10,000 feet) was founded in 1574 in Callejon de Huaylas Valley in the Andes Mountains, Peru, South America. Huaraz is Peru's center of climbing, hiking, snowboarding and is also the main tourist center of the Ancash region.
