  • At Urnes Stave Church, Norway, Viking Age animal art meets Christian architecture..Urnes stavkirke (or stavkyrkje), the oldest Stave Church in Norway, stands at Ornes farm on Lustrafjord in Luster municipality, Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The church was built around 1135 AD and links Christian architecture with animal-ornamentation of the Viking Age. In 1979, Urnes Stave Church was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Fortidsminneforeningen (Society for the Preservation of Norwegian Ancient Monuments) has owned it since 1881.

Between Tjugen camping and Loenvatnet, park at the pay lot and ascend to Skålatårnet (Skåla Tower, a DNT lodge) steeply on a well marked trail. Stepping stones greatly improve footing on the upper portion protected within Jostedalsbreen National Park (nasjonalpark).   • Besseggen is one of the most popular hikes in Norway. The mountain ridge of Besseggen (or Besseggi) rises between green Lake Gjende and blue lake Bessvatnet in Oppland county, in Jotunheimen (the Home of the Giants, the highest section of the Scandinavian Mountains), Norway. Ride a boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu, then hike along the trail to narrow Besseggen at the halfway point. Then ascend to the trail's highest point, Veslfjellet (1743 meters), and walk steeply down to Gjendesheim, in about 8 to 10 hours total. Pretty Lake Gjende is colored green from glacier runoff containing clay (rock flour).

  • Trollstigen (the Troll's Ladder) is a steep (9% grade) mountain road with eleven hairpin turns in Rauma, Norway, part of Norwegian National Road 63 connecting Åndalsnes in Rauma and Valldal in Norddal. Surrounding the road is Reinheimen National Park, Norway's third largest. Trollstigen was opened 1936 by King Haakon VII after 8 years of construction.   • The Troll Wall is the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, about 1100 meters (3600 feet) from base to summit. Located within Reinheimen National Park, the Troll Wall (Trollveggen) and Trolltindane (Troll Peaks) soar high above the Romsdalen valley near Åndalsnes, Norway. The gneiss rock summit ridge overhangs its base by nearly 50 meters (160 ft). Parachute BASE jumping from Troll Wall has been illegal since 1986, but climbing the face is allowed, as is hiking up the gentler back. Trollveggen is in Rauma municipality, Møre og Romsdal county.
