USA: Washington favorites

Kaleetan Peak at Gem Lake. Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Cascade Range, Washington, USA.

Kaleetan Peak (left, 6259 ft / 1908 m) rises above crystal-clear Gem Lake in Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area in the Cascade Range of Washington, USA. In mid July, we hiked to Gem Lake 10 miles round trip with 2800 feet cumulative gain along Snow Lake Trail #1013 in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Take Interstate 90 Exit #52 westbound or Exit #53 eastbound and follow signs to Alpental Road ski area parking lot and trailhead. To avoid crowds at this popular trail, start early and avoid sunny weekends. The trail down from the saddle viewpoint to Snow Lake is often snow covered through July 4.
