NEW ZEALAND: Rees-Dart Track, South Island

Blue-green glacier-fed Dart River braids across Dredge Flat in Dart Valley, Mount Aspiring NP, New Zealand.

Blue-green glacier-fed Dart River braids across Dredge Flat into a lake dammed by the 2014 Jan 04 landslide, which required rough, rooty rerouting of three sections of the Rees-Dart Track, reopened in late 2017. Suspended glacial powder colors the lake turquoise. In 5 days, we tramped the strenuous Rees-Dart Track for 39 miles plus 12.5-mile side trip to spectacular Cascade Saddle, in Mount Aspiring National Park, Otago region, South Island of New Zealand.
