Five Finger Rapids on the Yukon River makes a good walking break for drivers along the Klondike Highway north of Carmacks, Yukon, Canada. Four islands divide the river into five narrow channels of which only the eastern is passable. Whitehorse-bound sternwheelers during the Klondike Gold Rush in 1898 had to winch themselves over the 1-2 foot drop until the underwater obstacle was blasted away. These rapids are mentioned in Jack London's novel "The Call of the Wild". In Yukon, the Klondike Highway is marked as Yukon Highway 2 to Dawson City.
